New York City Program Part of Nationwide Initiative to Grow STEM Careers

NEW YORK CITY, NY--(Marketwired) - UST Global, a Los Angeles-based information technology solutions and services company serving Global 1000 enterprises, today launched
'Step IT Up America - New York,' part of its nationwide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative to, by 2020, educate 5,000 minority women across the country and place them in jobs.

The Step IT Up America - New York City program provides fully funded training and guaranteed job placement for 100 minority women in the IT industry. These women represent what is usually an underrepresented demographic among the booming technology career field.

The New York program kicked off with a ceremony that included keynote speeches from Ben-Saba Hasan, Senior VP of Strategic Services at Walmart; Minerva Tantoco, Chief Technology Officer of NYC; Oscar Santana, Intergovernmental Services & Emergency Response Director of New York City, Department of Small Business Services; Dayle Haddon, Founder of Women's One, Diane Farrell, Acting President of U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC); Nelly Gicho-Niyonzima, Founder and CEO of The Connected Hearts, Inc.; Beatrice Akers and Ashley Precia, graduates of Step IT Up America; and Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global.

"Diversity is a key factor in establishing a successful, innovative IT company," said UST Global CEO Sajan Pillai. "Diversity allows companies fresh perspectives for strategies and new ideas. Offering these amazing women this opportunity is simply doing what is best for the industry: providing great talent the resources to be leaders in the market."

"It's an unbelievable program," said Ashley Precia, graduate of Step IT Up America. "It's just an honor not only having this chance to create a career for ourselves, but also encouraging other minority women to change current statistics and contribute to STEM through hard work and determination. It's a great feeling."

To date, Step IT Up America has successfully launched in six cities: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. This program has already touched the lives of over 300 women, and ultimately, Step IT Up America aims to launch in 10 cities in total.
